STUDY PUBLISHED ON NEW PROGNOSTIC TOOL

The International Working Group for Myeloproliferative Neoplasms Research and Treatment (IWG-MRT) is comprised of hematologists, hematopathologists, and laboratory scientists. Its main goal is to provide a forum for scientific exchange and collaboration on topics related to MPN/MPD. A recent study carried out on behalf of the IWG-MRT documents a new model for predicting survival for patients with primary myelofibrosis (PMF). Unlike previous models, which predicted outcome based on patient characteristics at the time of diagnosis, this new model uses more dynamic criteria at both diagnosis and subsequent monitoring points. This new model has potential to improve clinical decision-making, and may also provide a framework for further studies on the prognostic role of genetic markers in PMF.
