Dr. Gary Luker at University of Michigan has a study that he thinks people with a myeloproliferative neoplasm will be interested in. It’s a topic the MPNRF knows well as we have funded other studies who sought the same outcome, which is to create an accurate way of assessing the state of the bone marrow of a patient without having to do a traditional bone marrow biopsy.
Dr. Luker’s group is actively recruiting patients and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Interested patients would have to come to the University of Michigan for the imaging studies, which entail lying in the MRI scanner for approximately 45 minutes. The study does not require intravenous contrast. The long-term goal is to standardize the methods so they can be implemented widely in multi-center trials.
